Technical: New England Cable News (NECN) is a regional 24-hour cable news television network owned and operated by NBCUniversal (as part of the Comcast SportsNet division of NBC Sports Group) serving the New England region of the United States. It is very similar to CNN in structure and style, but focuses more on regional news. The channel is also similar to Northwest Cable News, which covers the Pacific Northwest. Its main studios are located in Newton, Massachusetts (near Boston), but operates several news bureaus in the New England area, including Manchester, New Hampshire; Hartford, Connecticut; Worcester, Massachusetts; Portland, Maine; and Burlington, Vermont.

On January 18, 2010, NECN launched an HD version on Comcast systems. NECN contracted Southwest Digital to integrated all aspects of the new graphics package using Grass Valley Vertigo Suite

The main goal of the integration was to minimize the multitude of templates for each of the shows. It was clear that with a standard approach we were looking at over 300 templates, logistics, and playout scenerios. A strategically built custom interface allowed all templates to access any graphics package at any given time. Automated time periods allowed producers to focus on the content rather that have to choose through multiple graphic options.

The complete integrated system had to be fully automated for the newsroom. Ticker Data integration for weather, sports, and sponsors was designed to maximize the automation features while keeping consistent design between shows.
